You don't have to pay for an urgent service to get your apostille, you can do it yourself. The State of Maryland processes all documents on a first-come, first-served basis. Maryland apostille service may only be issued in the state of Maryland by the Maryland Secretary of State's office.

An apostille may be placed on original documents issued in the state of Maryland that bear the official signature and seal of a valid mandatory notary, current Maryland State Registrar, Probate Judge, or a document issued by one of Maryland's state departments. The Apostille certificate only certifies the capacity of the person who signed the public document and the authenticity of the signature. An apostille certificate does not certify the content of the public document to which it refers.

Documents issued by another state cannot be apostilled by the state of Maryland. They must be apostilled from the same issuing country. Documents issued by the federal government to individuals or companies based in Maryland must obtain the apostille from the U.S. Department of State.
